Champion Group (Door Group) is delivering a landmark hydraulic hangar door for the Vilnius Airport (Kukucha) aviation facility in Lithuania — a bold fusion of architectural elegance and advanced engineering.
This custom-engineered door combines a solid timber load-bearing structure with a transparent polycarbonate façade, creating a design unlike anything Champion Group has supplied before. Built to meet the demanding operational requirements of a modern aviation facility, the 16,500 x 6,700 mm door also stands as a distinctive architectural element of the building itself.
The hydraulic system ensures smooth, reliable and effortless movement despite the door’s considerable dimensions, folding it compactly upwards to maximise internal hangar clearance during aircraft operations. The project sets a new standard for design innovation in industrial aviation doors across the Baltics and Europe.
Unique Architectural Design: A first-of-its-kind solid wood structural door with polycarbonate façade, delivering exceptional visual identity without compromising aviation-grade performance.
Polycarbonate Façade Panel System: High-performance panels allow natural daylight into the hangar, reducing artificial lighting needs and creating a rarely seen transparent architectural look.
Solid Wood Load-Bearing Structure: Precision-engineered timber frame — sustainable, thermally efficient and protected for long-term durability in demanding aviation environments.
Advanced Hydraulic Lifting System: Smooth, precise movement of the full 16,500 x 6,700 mm door, folding compactly to maximise usable height and interior hangar space.
Weather & Climate Resistance: Engineered for Baltic conditions, including wind load, cold, temperature fluctuations, moisture and precipitation typical of the Vilnius region.
Thermal & Acoustic Properties: Wood-and-polycarbonate construction provides effective thermal buffering and sound insulation for a controlled working environment.
Compact Folding: Minimal bulk when open, preserving interior space and keeping the exterior façade clean and unobstructed.
Currently ongoing, with installation scheduled for completion in Q2 2026. Champion Group’s engineering and project management teams have been involved from the earliest design stages, working directly with the client and architectural consultants to transform a unique creative vision into a fully engineered, manufacturable and operational door solution.
The project is being developed in full compliance with European standards for industrial door systems, including structural safety, wind load resistance and reliability. Champion Group’s experienced installation team is overseeing all on-site activities at Vilnius Airport (Kukucha), ensuring seamless integration with the facility’s structure and building systems and deploying the hydraulic system to the highest performance standards.
This project marks a significant milestone in Champion Group’s continued expansion in the Baltics and reinforces its reputation as a leading specialist in bespoke aviation door solutions — a landmark of what is possible when advanced door technology meets architectural ambition.
